What is Stroke

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is suddenly interrupted or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling blood into the spaces surrounding brain cells. Brain cells die when they no longer receive oxygen and nutrients from the blood or there is sudden bleeding into or around the brain. The symptoms of a stroke include sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body; sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech; sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes; sudden trouble with walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination; or sudden severe headache with no known cause. There are two forms of stroke: ischemic - blockage of a blood vessel supplying the brain, and hemorrhagic - bleeding into or around the brain.

STROKE:

Remember The 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R.  Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to
TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE
(Coherently) I.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY
ONE
of these tasks, call 911 immediately
and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke

Stick out Your Tongue

Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.  www.americanstrokeassociation.com

Their love story started 63 years ago.   My Father traveling through town looking for work  and not love.  Well, love found him instead.  He found my Mother, who was know in Las Martinas as the most beatiful girl in town, aka "El Bonbonsito de las Martinas."  She was not interested in marriage or my Dad.  He was head over hills in love with her and he worked hard to win her heart, finally she did fall mandly in love with him. The courtship stories are beautiful and funny.  They married in 1947.   By the way Dad did find a job with my Grandfather. These two love birds have two beautiful daughters.  The daughters each have a child, a boy and a girl they are now teenagers.  My Parents are enjoying their golden years and their grandchildren, Andy and Marieoni.
